Why would Westview decide to take 12 weeks and study Titus? Not Titus the Roman Emperor who destroyed Jerusalem in AD 70, no, we are talking about Titus, a young man who was the Apostle Paul’s assistant for many years. The one who received a letter from Paul - you know, the letter TITUS!
Well, it has a lot to do with the place Titus was sent to . . . you see, Titus was asked to go to an island called Crete – an island full of diverse people with some diverse problems. They were liars, brutes, and people who ate too much and were criticized for being lazy.
We found we have a lot in common - you know we live on an island, we sometimes eat too much, drink too much, sit around and enjoy our "joie de vivre," not to mention at times paying for things under the . . . !
Our first thought was “WOW,” sounds like long lost family. And our second thought was a book like that would speak to us in a number of areas, especially since our desire is to be a church who is “PASSIONATE ABOUT GOD AND HIS WORLD.”
This Titus was not into conquering people by force – he was about conquering people’s hearts with the message of Jesus Christ. He was about helping churches on an island become the type of churches that showed other people, and themselves, what it meant to be a Christ Follower.
So, welcome to our island . .
